Francois Pienaar wondered about the life of Nelson Mandela, questioning: “How you spend 30 years in a tiny cell and come out ready to forgive the people who put you there”, and it’s with his example of forgiveness Nelson Mandela reformed the world. 

His mission was an anti-apartheid revolution, establishing equality and freedom for all women, men and children. He stood for the fundamental rights of all human beings, regardless of gender, nationality or race. This is also very ideal for which Nelson Mandela was jailed for 27 years.

A man who suffered a lot in the furnaces of trials for his purpose and remained unmoved in his determination turned all to be gold attracting the world with its aura, piety and power as he achieved his purpose, his MISSION.

What can it be that keeps a person determined that no hindrance can hold back or pin him down? 

Spilling the beans himself Nelson Mandela revealed in his autobiography “Long Walk To Freedom”. He mentioned, “during his prison sentence, he read the work of Marcus Aurelius, who is best known for his Meditations on Stoic philosophy. 

Aurelius in his meditations teaches that above all, it is important to hold control over one’s emotions. It is vital for success and happiness to hold a certain tranquility and to not counter difficult situations with a matched difficult reaction. 

I have often wondered how it is that every man loves himself more than all the rest of men but yet sets less value on his own opinions of himself than on the opinions of others. Love is only what befalls you and is spun for you by fate. Love the little trade which thou hast learned, and be content therewith.~ Marcus Aurelius

His idea of love is to be free from passion and full of love, and that is what the essence of true self-love is. When you love yourself all to love selflessly, you are free of desire and passion that has consuming energy as you burn yourself up with the energy of another. 

 

Mediation emphasizes the power of the mind. Your mind is powerful, you have power over your mind and not the outside events, and this realization is the essence. Comprehension of this fact sets a person free and helps in finding and building strengths, time & energy. 

Let me share an anecdote by Rolf Dobelli: There was a man with an orange hat who appears daily in the town square at the traffic signal. He frantically waves his orange hat for some time and then disappears. One day the traffic policeman couldn’t hold his curiosity and asked him. Sir, may I ask what you are doing? The young man replied i am keeping away the giraffes. ” The policeman was puzzled and said, ” here ain’t any giraffes?! The man replied well then I am doing a good job at keeping them away. 

Control is an Illusion we build to protect ourselves, & the larger we try to make that circle, the weaker it gets. We have so little control over ourselves, how can one dwell on controlling others’ life? 

Perhaps this is what thinking is about. Clear thinking is to comprehend control is an illusion. And what appears as under control are just random events.  

Control of others or the things in the world is merely an illusion. Our strength is when having all the power to bring change within & practising control only over ourselves.

Where one can control what happens to us and in our environment, we can well control our reactions & response to them. And happens when one is well aware of self, abilities and capabilities and when one is in love with self & passion it prevents one from fatigue, frustration and failure for your competition is but you. When you love yourself and compete with yourself, in a race to improve yourself each day.

The idea is to think differently in and about everything you do. Observe to understand and comprehend the issue. What needs corrections choose, work on them consistently and the outcome will be huge.

Never underestimate the power of marginal gain. Remember your mind is your worst enemy and best friend. Learn well how to fight and defeat it whenever it comes against you talking negatively, or taking a negative side. What you think you become, what you believe you achieve. 

Stop negative self-talk.  

It is not about making small changes daily & thinking wings will emerge to fly someday. Rather it is about mapping out your why, your wing. Dusting, sharpening & strengthening them each day. Never underestimate the power of marginal gains. 

Fight all the biases that are the outcome of negative self-talk, negative vibes or a negative environment that tries to diminish your light, your positive side, and your confidence. 

And all the above as said can be achieved only when you are aware of what are the cause and effects. The consequence that makes you trip and fall… aka your blind spot. Mark up the blind spots not to knock them out, but it’s about to skip them, sharpening your edge out, making them round and blind as you skip them out. 

Blind spots are the cause to trip over, the need is to examine patterns. Falling is okay, but not learning isn’t. Fear discourages us from exploring new horizons. Just a diligent inspection reveals mistakes are the treasure of abundance, only if we dare not to repeat them. 

Know your mind and turn it into a magnet. Evoke the power of your mind. Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them. 

When they say, the happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts, the truth is your life depends on your thoughts, thoughts create reality. Ipso facto how a person appears, behaves, affects, thinks, perceives, judges and decides to act and express are the ability of one’s mind and this ability creates one’s reality. 

Human behaviour is a science, it becomes a very significant tool in leading a life. The more you are familiar with this science of human behaviour the more aware you become of yourself. The cause and effect is always the pattern and is an unending loop which becomes energy & time-consuming. 

But then the fact is it’s only the time and energy which are limited. Of this science and its function to better your awareness you power the cause and effects and the reasons, your purpose and the key that helps you to achieve them is you behaviour. 

Awareness is the key when you are aware of what to give energy to and what to ignore. You direct your energy to things that are valued adding to your life’s liking and purpose and you end up doing more that makes you happy. 

Does it make me happy? Does it bring meaning? Does it add value? Is it making me better and my environment? are some filters when you work on you can save on your time and energy. The fun fact is the checkpoint is not set on the outside world, people or things. It’s about knowing yourself and acting and achieving your purpose, passion, peace and prosperity. 

How a person appears, behaves, affects, thinks, perceives, judges and decides to act and express are the ability of one’s mind. These mental abilities are cognitive skills. Cognitive skills are the core skills your brain uses to think, read, learn, remember, reason, and pay attention. Working together, they take incoming information and move it into the bank of knowledge you use every day at school, at work, and in life. 

The key word here is ” take incoming information”. How one takes the incoming information that becomes the future point of reference for new information to conceptualise is the key. And so it’s utterly necessary to be mindful aka mindful paying full attention to the idea or the information reasoning in objectivity. Reasoning why how and why in subjectivity and then deciding on how much energy and time to invest in. 

Psychology suggests some conditions and barriers don’t let you see through & reasoning that they finally serve a cognitive bias or blind spots that ultimately make your trip and fall and you drift away from your goal, purpose and success.

This is negative self-talk, an outcome of a negative mental state that often leads to anxiety triggering a negative perception of the situation of being so strongly influenced by your emotions that you assume that they indicate objective truth. 

The truth is our imaginations are powerful tools for protecting us against harm. When we construct in our imaginations a cascade of events that eventually leads to catastrophe, that might be a way of keeping ourselves physically and psychologically safe from harm. That doesn’t mean it’s true, many times it’s cognitive distortion.

Cognitive distortions are internal mental filters or biases that increase our misery, fuel our anxiety, and make us feel bad about ourselves. Our brains are continually processing lots of information. To deal with this, our brains seek shortcuts to cut down our mental burdens. Comfort Zone for your mind is your cognitive bias which is often negative.

With the increasing necessity on mental health with increasing issues of anxiety, depression, and increasing cases of suicides much is evident that the environment that is building is following the pattern of negativity that is sprouting out of the rush and running in the wrong direction. When you pause or rest and think about your goal, objective and purpose you become conscious. 

When you are conscious of your intention, when you are in alignment with who you are when you have faith that you’re a powerful creator you can change your world. You have to understand and accept that you are the creator; you create your environment and you are not the product of your environment. 

So, as you synchronize your consciousness with your intentions soaked in welfare for all and kindness the magic does start to happen, as the Universe commences creating serendipity. Except there are no tricks, no deception, it’s you. You have the power to create a new you, your reality. 

Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Charge yourself and Be one Magnet. Let your mental process be always positive, from your way to “How to Be”, to create well-being not for only yourselves but for all. It may appear you are doing for others but you will end up defeating the negative out of your mind and all that stops you from rising and fulfilling your dreams… Never be unkind!
