Small Actions Towards a Greener Future

Holika Dahan has always been a symbol of the victory of truth over evil and light over darkness.

Holi is also a celebration of divinity. The fire during the Holika Dahan festival cleanses the negativity inside us.

Festivals in Indian culture have never stood apart from nature. From harvest festivals to Diwali, there has always been a tradition of thanking our motherland.

A recent article in Dainik Bhaskar (Bhopal edition, 26/02/2026) has provided an interesting example of how tradition can be in harmony with environmental consciousness. This news talks about how a group of women has prepared almost two hundred tons of eco-friendly logs. These logs, prepared using cow dung, known as Go-Kasth, will be used during Holika Dahan.

This project will ensure that thousands of trees are not cut down for the fire ritual.

The preparations are done months before the festival. This shows dedication, planning, and teamwork to take a step towards a “greener goal.” What is more motivating is that the ash generated by these logs will be used as organic fertilizer later, which will nourish the soil.

These efforts may seem small at first glance. After all, a single festival fire does not appear to be a significant issue in the greater environmental crisis. But the process of making a significant change can be initiated by small steps.

Indian culture has always emphasized balance with nature. This initiative is a revival of the inherited wisdom in modern India.

The practice of eco-conscious communities has become a well-known trend in countries such as the United States. Now, India is also moving toward more environmentally friendly practices. It proves that old traditions can evolve without being stripped of their spiritual values.

As women form cow dung into Go-Kasth, they form hope.

When we make thoughtful choices, we can respect our traditions and care for our environment. We can show that even our most basic actions can help us move towards a more eco-friendly future for the next generations.
